Half Scale Dresses

Smiles and Pins

Berenice and half scale dress

She sure is proud of herself and Berenice should be.  She has learned  how to operate the machine, control the foot, and thread the machine plus the bobbin.

Now Berenice has successfully made her first dress. Half scale. We used patternmaking software to design the dress. WOW! We loved designing the dress  on the computer. Just enter the measurements  and VOILA!!!!!
Perfect fit.

Practice Makes Sew Perfect

Standard

Eyes on the Prize

Sew into this. Class was just sew busy today.

Before we can really sew, we have to practice. Kacie is really having a good time. Sew Smile why don’t ya!

All Tied Up in Thread

Just Sew Much Fun. Well that’s what we are having. Sewing is fun. We love it.

This the second day of sewing class and boy were we busy. Learning how to thread the machine over and over. Practice makes perfect. We also learned how to wind the bobbin. But we really had fun stitching the lines on paper. The straight lines were okay, but the curves, ughhh, they were a challenge.

Next week we will be ready to really sew on fabric. Samples first. Then the real thing. Cross our fingers!!!!

Classroom

The “1st Stitch” Classroom is dedicated to South Phoenix Youth Center and the community it serves. Thanks to Jon Taylor of the 100 Black Men, Carole Coles Henry, Mary Rose Wilcox and the many others who have donated to this wonderful cause. The vision of “1st Stitch” came about  to create a space for people of the community to get back to learning basics. Learning basics that spark ingenuity and entreprenuership. Skills offered are sewing, knitting, crochet, upholstery and other textile creations. Our mission is to provide basic life skills to enhance ones lifestyle and/or employement opportunities. While all along being creative and having fun.

My name is TinaMarie and I am a mentor. I own a successful dressmaking and alterations business. I  am mentoring  this class, offering my knowledge and skills.  So many people can benefit from what  they will learn from this class.  Happily I accepted this endeavor.

Follow, comment, give us your thoughts. Maybe you will become a mentor too!
